Afghanistan Announce ODI, T20I Squads For Zimbabwe Series, Gulbadin Naib Not Included, Zia-ur-Rehman Gets Call-up

Afghanistan National Cricket Team have named the One Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) squads for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe and the senior all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has been dropped from the One Day International team. Also, left-arm spinner Zia-ur-Rehman Akbar has got the call-up for the three-match ODI series.

Former Afghanistan skipper Gulbadin Naib last played international cricket for his side in February against Bangladesh and his performance in the last 10 ODI games has been very poor as he has averaged just 13.75 with the bat and picked up only two wickets.

He had also lost his place in the T20I side in the series against Bangladesh, which was held earlier this year. Notably, that series between the teams ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, Zia-ur-Rehman Akbar had performed brilliantly in the Green Afghanistan One-Day Cup and finished as the highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets under his belt.

Also, Qais Ahmad has not been included in both the squads as he has T20 Blast commitments. However, Mujeeb ur Rahman, who also has T20 Blast commitments, has been named in the ODI squad and he will link up with Middlesex after he participates in the ODI series. Notably, Qais and Mujeeb have been replaced by Ihsanullah Janat and Noor Ahmad in the T20I squad.

Afghanistan National Cricket Team will be travelling to Zimbabwe later this week for the series, which will begin on June 4.

The One Day International series is also part of the World Cup Super League. Afghanistan are currently placed at the No. 5 spot with seven wins and Zimbabwe are in the 12th spot with just three wins.
