Afghanistan all-rounder Najibullah Zadran brutally mocked Australia's Test and ODI captain, Pat Cummins, after the Rashid Khan-led team's victory over Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024. Zadran's statement came after Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, was eliminated from the ongoing ICC tournament.
The Afghanistan team defeated Bangladesh by 8 runs in a nail-biting encounter at the Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent on Monday, June 24 (local time). The Rashid Khan-led side became the second team after Rohit Sharma's India to advance to the semifinal stages of the tournament from Super 8 Group 1.
Australia started the Super Eight stage with a victory over Bangladesh. However, the Mitchell Marsh-led team then suffered a shocking defeat to Afghanistan. The Australia team failed to secure victory against the India team in their last Super Eight match, suffering a 24-run loss in St Lucia on Monday.
The 2021 T20 World Cup champions relied on Bangladesh to help them reach the semifinals of the marquee tournament. Australia would have advanced to the semifinals if Bangladesh had defeated Afghanistan in their recent match. Australia has a better Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to Afghanistan's.
Najib Zadran Trolls Pat Cummins After Afghanistan's Victory
Afghanistan secured the last semifinal spot ahead of Australia in the T20 World Cup. Najib Zadran tweeted sarcastically following Australia's failure to reach the semifinals. Zadran highlighted Pat Cummins' prediction of the top four teams in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
"Q: How is the top 4 semifinalist? A: definitely Australia, other 3 you choose," Najib tweeted after Afghanistan's win.

You Can Choose Which Three You Want - Pat Cummins
Before the T20 World Cup began, Pat Cummins confidently predicted that Australia would qualify for the semifinals. Cummins said that Australia's spot in the top four was assured, leaving the choice of the other three teams open for speculation.
"Definitely Australia. And then you can choose which three you want," Cummins said when asked about the other potential semifinalists for the T20 World Cup.
Afghanistan defeated strong title contenders New Zealand in the group stages to secure a berth in the Super Eight stage. Afghan stunned Australia to stay in the race for qualifying for the semifinals. They continued their successful run by defeating Bangladesh in a dramatic match to advance to the semifinals.
The Rashid Khan-led team successfully defended 115 runs in a rain-curtailed game. Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan took three wickets each in the must-win encounter. Naveen picked up two consecutive wickets to bowl out the opposing team. He was named Player of the Match for his bowling heroics.
Rashid Khan's Afghanistan team will play against South Africa in the first semifinal at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Wednesday, June 26 (local time). Meanwhile, the Indian team will compete against England in the second semifinal at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, on Thursday, June 27.
