Afghanistan Cricket Team is set to play the 3-Match ODI Series. This ODI Series was originally scheduled for February 2023. This ODI Series comes under ICC Super League points. Sri Lanka would be hoping that they can continue their ODI form as recently they had beaten Australia by 3-2 in a 5-match ODI Series.

Afghanistan has shown that they are a team to beat in ODIs too.  It would be interesting to see whether the Afghanistan batters cope with Sri Lanka’s spin-friendly pitches. The team would be hoping to spoil the party of Sri Lanka in the upcoming ODI Series.

Crucial Series for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is placed at 10th position out of 13 with 62 points in 18 matches. The island nation needs to finish in the top 8 for direct qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Sri Lanka would be aware of the fact that they can’t take Afghanistan lightly by any means. Sri Lanka needs to win the ODI Series to be in contention for the top 8 finish.

Afghanistan on the other hand is placed at 7th position with 100 points in 12 matches. Afghanistan currently is placed in a good position. Winning ODI Series may seem unlikely for Afghanistan as currently, Sri Lanka is on a roll in the ODI format. They had defeated Australia in Sri Lanka after 3 decades which was quite a big achievement.
