The Indian cricket team had a dominating start to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Rohit Sharma and his Blue Army crushed the Minnows Ireland by eight wickets in their opening game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 to have a winning start to their big mission on Wednesday, June 5, in New York.

Jay Shah lauds Team India after commanding win over Ireland in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener

This win left BCCI secretary Jay Shah jubilant, as he congratulated the Men in Blue for their spectacular win against Ireland in their first match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He has also made special mention of Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya and captain Rohit Sharma in his congratulatory post for the national team.

Well, it was a one-sided affair at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where Indian bowlers and batters both shone brightly against the Ireland cricket team in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener.

However, it was really a tricky pitch, where the batters were putting in all the effort, but there was no help, as the ball was not just moving from the point where it was smacked by the batters.

Well, all the stars were in favor of Team India, as the captain Rohit won the toss and decided to bowl first on the challenging pitch of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, and his bowlers gave every bit to overjoy with his call.

Hardik Pandya returns to form with an impressive spell against Ireland

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya stole the show against Ireland with the ball after his poor IPL 2024 campaign with the Mumbai Indians (MI). Pandya returned with stunning figures of 3/27 in his quote of four overs, including a maiden over, to help the Men in Blue restrict the Irish side to a below-par total of 96 in 16 overs in New York.

Apart from Hardik, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh also bowled brilliantly and scalped two wickets each against Ireland. Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel also managed to open their accounts in Ireland.

Chasing the target, the Indian cricket team lost their opener Virat Kohli for just 1 off 5 balls, but then the skipper Rohit and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant took charge of the team against Ireland.

Rohit made the most of Ireland's missed opportunity and went on to score 52 off just 37 balls, including four boundaries and three impressive sixes, as well as share a 54-run partnership with Rishabh Pant (36* off 26 balls) before opting to retire hurt and head back to the dugout due to some discomfort in his shoulder in the T20 World Cup 2024 game against Ireland.

However, the senior opener had already done his job, and then Pant finished the match for India with a six against Ireland, winning the game by eight wickets with 46 balls to spare on Wednesday.

Notably, Suryakumar Yadav couldn’t also read the pitch and conditions and fell for just 2 runs off 4 balls against Ireland, while Shivam Dube failed to open the account in two balls he faced in New York.
