In a fiery and controversial statement, Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad took a direct shot at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s strong statement on the current state of Pakistan cricket.

Responding to Ashwin's surprise at Pakistan's recent struggles, Shehzad didn’t hold back, sarcastically dismissing Ashwin’s concerns and turning the spotlight on the PCB’s failures.

He mocked the PCB’s management and decisions, saying that stadiums may be under construction, but the actual progress of cricket in Pakistan remains motionless.

Shehzad's remarks came in the wake of Ashwin’s blunt assessment on his YouTube channel, where the Indian all-rounder expressed shock at Pakistan’s recent whitewash at home in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Drawing a comparison to the era of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, Ashwin noted that beating Pakistan used to be a challenge, but now things changed drastically.

Ashwin said in a video posted on his YouTube channel: “Keeping all this aside, Pakistan cricket, to see where it is right now, it wasn't possible 10 years ago with Misbah, Younis Khan, even when they used to play in the UAE. Back then, it was very tough to beat Pakistan, right?”

Why are you surprised, Ashwin? Shehzad

Responding to Ashwin's comments with sarcasm, Shehzad questioned why the Indian star was surprised by the recent struggles of the Pakistan cricket team.

Ahmed Shehzad ridiculed the PCB for believing that organizing tournaments like the Champions One-Day Cup, starting on September 12, would improve the situation in Pakistan.

Ahmed Shehzad said on his YouTube channel, Why are you surprised, Ashwin? Don't worry; everything is fine here. Can't you see that stadiums are being built over here? Continuous digging is being done. Don't be surprised at all. Are you not seeing that Pakistan is organizing a cup?

Just wait and watch the number of players who come out of this tournament. How do we get a battery of fast bowlers and produce players? Are you not seeing this? Why are you surprised, Ravi?”

Shehzad slams the Pakistan cricket team's recent struggles

Ahmed Shehzad did not hold back in his critique, as he slammed Pakistan for their inability to qualify for the Super 8 round of the 2024 T20 World Cup and insisted that there are bigger issues within the national set-up that need to be addressed.

Ahmed Shehzad signed off by saying, “So, what if we couldn't qualify for the Super 8 round of the 2024 T20 World Cup? So, what if there is groupism in our team? So, what if the current players in the team are not performing? It's not a big issue, Ravi, so please don't worry.”

Notably, Pakistan is all set to host England in a Test series after a humiliating defeat in the home Test series against Bangladesh recently. England will be touring to Pakistan for a three-match Test series next month.

However, it is being said that this series can be shifted out of Pakistan due to the ongoing renovation work at the stadiums in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2024.
