Aiden Markram Stunner To Dismiss Nitish Kumar Reddy
PC: X

South Africa opener Aiden Markram grabbed a one-handed catch at third slip to remove Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy on Day 3 (Monday, November 24) of the second Test match in Guwahati. Markram showcased the Proteas’ outstanding fielding standards, and the moment drew “Superman” comparisons.

India started the second day at 9/0, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul at the crease. However, the home team lost three crucial wickets in the first session. The pressure carried into the second session as Rishabh Pant perished while playing an unnecessary shot, which opened the door for Nitish Kumar to come in.

Reddy looked unsettled from the start. He nearly chopped a delivery from Simon Harmer onto his stumps and then edged Marco Jansen for a streaky boundary.

Watch: Aiden Markram Takes a Superb Catch to Dismiss Nitish Kumar Reddy

In the 42nd over of India's first innings, Marco Jansen delivered a sharp bouncer at Nitish Kumar Reddy. The batter tried to defend it safely with a high bat, but the ball brushed the shoulder of his bat and popped up towards the slip region.

The chance went wide of second slip, but Aiden Markram reacted quickly. Markram sprinted to his right and launched into a full dive. He stretched out and pulled off a brilliant one-handed catch despite the ball traveling away from him.

For a moment, it looked almost unreal, and his teammates showed their excitement as they gathered around him to celebrate the spectacular effort. Have a look at the stunning catch right here:

Ravindra Jadeja Undone a Marco Jansen Bouncer Soon After Nitish Kumar Reddy

Marco Jansen struck again with a well-directed bouncer. After Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed in almost the same way. The delivery hit Jadeja high on the body, deflected off his bat, and carried straight to Aiden Markram in the slips, giving the fielder another sharp catch.

At the time of writing, India were struggling at 158/7, with Washington Sundar (24) and Kuldeep Yadav (11) at the crease. The home team was still trailing South Africa by 331 runs in a must-win Test. India's main priority should be to avoid the follow-on in the ongoing match.

South Africa have been excellent in the field on Day 3. Earlier in the day, fellow opening batter Ryan Rickelton took a superb catch to remove left-handed batter Sai Sudharsan.

South Africa Bowled Out for 489 in the First Innings

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma opted to bat after winning the toss. They finished the opening day on 247/6, with Senuran Muthusamy and Kyle Verreynne unbeaten at stumps. Kuldeep Yadav was India’s best bowler with three wickets.

India went wicketless through the entire first session on Day 2, and South Africa moved to 316/6 by tea. Ravindra Jadeja finally broke the long stand soon after the break by removing Verreynne for 45. With Marco Jansen joining in, the game tilted further towards the visitors.

Muthusamy brought up his first Test century and added 97 runs with Jansen at a quick pace for the eighth wicket. He scored 109 with the help of 10 fours and two sixes.

Jansen perished short of a maiden Test hundred, dismissed for 93 from 91 balls. South Africa were eventually bowled out for 489. Kuldeep Yadav finished with four wickets, while Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj claimed two each.
