Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane hogged the headlines during the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 game against Assam. The Elite Group B match between the teams is taking place at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai.

Mumbai won the toss and opted to bowl first. They were staggering with the ball as they bundled out Assam for just 84 runs. However, after that things haven’t been easy for them with the bat either. They lost their wickets early and were tumbling at 60/4 with in-form batters back in the hut.

Mumbai skipper Ajinkya Rahane then held the fort and tried to bail his team out of trouble. However, he found himself in the midst of the controversy. The Veteran batter was given out obstructing the field and it left the Mumbai team tumbling at 102/5.

Ajinkya Rahane played a straight drive and called in for a quick single. However, Shivam Dube at the other end denied the single and sent the senior batter back. As the right-hander hurred back he got in the way of the throw from the mid-on fielder Denish Das.

Assam team appealed and Ajinkya Rahane was given out obstructing the field. The incident happened just a delivery before the lunch. However, in the drastic turn of events, the Assam skipper withdrew the appeal and the Mumbai captain came to bat again.

Ajinkya Rahane now would be to make the most of the opportunity and play a big innings and help his team get a big league. To play a big knock will be extremely crucial for him, especially with him not having the greatest outings in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024.

Ajinkya Rahane so far has been not able to make a big mark in the Ranji Trophy 2024. After bagging a series of low scores, the batter recently slammed a half-century against Chattisgarh. He ended with the knock of 56 runs and got much-desired runs under his belt.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are still playing – Aakash Chopra praises the senior due for playing Ranji Trophy

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently shared his verdict on young players not playing the FC Cricket. He highlighted the commitment of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, saying that they are sending a strong message. He expressed:

“I am hearing that a lot of youngsters are not playing. They don’t play at all because their names have already come in the IPL. People have started thinking that they would be selected if they do well in the IPL, which is not a good thing because Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are still playing.

“If first-class cricket is happening and if you are fit and are not part of the Indian team, go and play. If someone feels that he will return without playing, a strong message has to be sent that you will only be considered when you go and play.”

Doors are still not closed for Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara to make a comeback in the Indian team. They would be hoping to score truckloads of runs and make a comeback.
