Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have found themself in an embarrassing situation when it comes to handing over the captaincy. In this article, we will look at all the IPL Captains of CSK.
All IPL Captains of Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
MS Dhoni (2008-2025)
Chennai Super Kings is a tem which is known for giving a long run to their players, and the same has been the case with their former captain MS Dhoni.
Dhoni, who led the team for many seasons and guided the team to five IPL trophies, continues to fill in even now, an evidence of which was seen in IPL 2025 as well when Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured.
Dhoni stepped in as the captain in the absence of Gaikwad. It wasn't the first time that Dhoni did so. He returned as the captain midway in 2022 after handing over the captaincy to Jadeja before IPL 2022.
It would be interesting to see if Dhoni continues to captain the side in the next season as well, or Ruturaj takes over the captain's hat from the senior player.
Suresh Raina (2010-2019)
Former Indian batter Suresh Raina acted as Dhoni's deputy till his time at Chennai Super Kings. Raina first captained the side in 2010 and used to fill in as the captain of he side until 2019.
Having said that, Suresh Raina has a very small sample size as CSK's captain. Raina played as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings in six games and was able to register a couple of wins.
Ravindra Jadeja (2022)
The 2022 IPL edition was one of those seasons that saw Chennai Super Kings struggle big time as the newly appointed captain Ravindra Jadeja wasn't able to guide the team to a win with both bat and ball.
The frustration was clearly visible on the defending champions as they were used to winning, and everything that was happening was very new to both the team management and the fans.
As a result of the consistent run of below-par performance, Jadeja was removed as the captain of Chennai Super Kings midway through the tournament, something which isn't associated with the Super Kings.
Dhoni took over from Jaeja and remained the captain of the side in 2023, as CSK made a strong comeback to win the title after a painful performance last year.
Ruturaj Gaikwad (2024-2025)
Dhoni again tried to execute the transition plan in 2024, this time with Ruturaj Gaikwad at the helm, and the move appeared to have paid dividends as the defending champions started the tournament well.
But as fate would have it, a few hiccups in the middle of the tournament put CSK ina peculiar position with the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side needing to win against RCB at all costs to move further, but that's not what happened.
Having said that, Gaikwad was retained as the captain for the 2025 season, but things took a completely different turn this season, with CSK finishing at the bottom of the points.
To add to the misery, Ruturaj was also ruled out of the tournament due to injury, with Dhoni taking over the captaincy
