Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has lauded Delhi Capitals' (DC) young batting sensation Tristan Stubbs following his remarkable season in the IPL 2024.

Stubbs finished off his impressive campaign with a match-winning all-round performance for the Delhi Capitals (DC) against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 14.

Praising the South African star's potential, Rayudu compared him to the legendary AB de Villiers and highlighted his significant contributions to the Rishabh Pant-led DC side in the ongoing IPL 2024.

However, Delhi failed to make it to the IPL 2024 Playoffs, but Stubbs played a crucial role in their campaign and even in their last game of the season against the LSG.

The Proteas star played a wonderful knock of unbeaten 57 off just 25 balls, studded with three fours and four sixes at an impressive strike rate of 228.00, showing his ability to adapt to play different deliveries and execute powerful shots under pressure against Lucknow. Additionally, Stubbs took the important wicket of Ayush Badoni to show his all-round capabilities.

Meanwhile, Ambati Rayudu expressed his admiration for Stubbs, impressed by the youngster’s impressive all-round abilities. The former Indian batter hailed Stubbs’ exceptional bowling, especially with the way he beautifully executed overs and his powerful and versatile batting.

He mentioned that Stubbs showed his ability to handle a variety of deliveries, effectively hitting everything from short balls to fuller deliveries, and showed great skill against slower balls in the tournament.

Surprisingly, Rayudu further went on to compare Stubbs to the legendary Proteas batter, AB de Villiers. However, he admitted that Stubbs still has a long way to go to reach De Villiers' level, but said that his current form shows he has the potential to become just as good as Mr. 360-degree.

Ambati Rayudu said on Star Sports: “Tristan Stubbs is an all-round package. He has bowled a beautiful over and the way he has been striking the ball this season -- he hits every length, right from the short ball to a fuller ball. He is also very good against slower ones. I feel he has tremendous talent. He is one of those South Africans in the mold of AB de Villiers. I think he has a long way to get there. But, he looks really good to become as good as AB de Villiers.”

Well, the combination of his batting skills and his effective bowling has made Stubbs a standout player and one of the rising stars of this season.

He amassed 378 runs at an average of 54.00 and a phenomenal strike rate of 190.90, including three half-centuries in 13 matches for DC in the IPL 2024.

His highest score this season was an unbeaten 71 to prove himself as a reliable middle-order batter. He also took three wickets, with his best figures being 2/11.

His overall contributions to the ball were particularly noteworthy in the death overs. DC brought him for a modest price of Rs 50 lakh, and he proved himself to be an invaluable asset in the tournament.
