West Indies have added wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo to their T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against India. According to Cricket West Indies, he has been included as cover for Jewel Andrew, who suffered a finger injury while taking a catch during the third ODI against India on Saturday.
The West Indies, led by Shai Hope, will commence the five-match T20I series against India in Lucknow on Tuesday, October 6. They will enter the series with confidence after completing a record-breaking chase of 352 against India in the third and final ODI at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Jewel Andrew Suffers Finger Injury During Third ODI
Jewel Andrew suffered the injury in the 36th over of India’s innings when he completed a catch to dismiss Naman Dhir off Gudakesh Motie. The 19-year-old took the catch at cover but injured his finger in the process and immediately left the field for medical attention.
Andrew had returned to the XI for the third ODI after sitting out the second match. He was taken to a hospital for an X-ray and further assessment. The scans did not reveal a fracture, but he was unable to bat during West Indies’ successful chase of 352.
Captain Shai Hope replaced Andrew at the top of the order during the chase. However, Cricket West Indies has not ruled the youngster out of the T20I series. Andrew remains with the touring squad and is being monitored by the medical team. Jangoo has been added specifically as wicketkeeping cover.
Amir Jangoo Earns Call-Up After Strong ODI Series
Amir Jangoo will enter the T20I squad after producing a strong run of scores in the three-match ODI series against India. The 29-year-old scored an unbeaten 58 in the first ODI, followed it with 114 in the second and added 67 in the third.
He scored 239 runs in three innings, finishing third on the overall run-scoring charts across both teams. Only India captain Shubman Gill, with 334 runs, and West Indies captain Shai Hope, with 278, scored more during the ODI series.
The consistency of Amir Jangoo’s performances makes his inclusion a timely boost for West Indies. He now has an opportunity to carry that confidence into the shorter format and strengthen his case for a regular place in the T20I setup.
Amir Jangoo Brings Seven T20Is Of International Experience
Amir Jangoo has played seven T20Is for West Indies since making his international debut in December 2024. He has scored 163 runs at a strike rate of 120.74.
His T20 record is less impressive than his recent ODI numbers, but his experience gives West Indies additional depth in the batting and wicketkeeping departments. The five-match series will give him another chance to make an impact in the format.
The wicketkeeper-batter also played a role in Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ CPL 2026 title-winning campaign. He scored 213 runs in the tournament, including an unbeaten 57 off 34 balls in the final against Jamaica Kingsmen. The Falcons won the final by eight wickets.
The first T20I will take place in Lucknow on October 6, followed by the second match in Ranchi on October 9. The third T20I will be played in Indore on October 11, with Hyderabad hosting the fourth match on October 14. The series will conclude in Bengaluru on October 17.
