Andre Russell has still not given up on playing for West Indies. At present, the allrounder’s international career is completely off track now.

Andre Russell has not played for West Indies since 2021. His last appearance for the Caribbean outfit was against Australia during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. On the other hand, he last played an ODI for the West Indies in the 2019 World Cup while his only appearance in Tests came way back in 2010.

While Andre Russell has remained away from West Indies, he has been a very busy cricketer in the franchise circuit. One of the most feared allrounders in the world, the hard-hitting player has played in T20 competitions in West Indies, Australia, India, UAE, England, and a few more countries.

At present, he is plying his trade for Los Angeles Knight Riders in the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket while West Indies are busy playing against India.

While Andre Russell is clearly not in the picture for West Indies at present, he is harboring hopes of representing the team in next year’s T20 World Cup. The marquee event is scheduled to be co-hosted by West Indies and the USA. Andre Russell is also ready to play a few series to be ready for the World Cup. The allrounder stated that he would not mind playing in the upcoming five-match T20I series against India.

“I am available. I want to be a part of the next World Cup so that would be something special to me if they can add me to the squad,” Andre Russell told the Jamaica Observer.

“I am willing to play a couple of series to make myself available. I am not just going to turn up and say I want to play at the World Cup from nothing at all.

“I know how everything works; I know I have to sacrifice a couple leagues in order to play for West Indies. I am willing to do that and try to give them the best chance in the World Cup, and whatever I can contribute in whatever area, I am willing to do it.

“There is an India series coming up that I would want to be a part of but no one has said anything to me and I am just minding my own business. I am just doing what I am doing — still training hard,” he added.

Speaking further, Andre Russell said that he has been in touch with the West Indies team management. He revealed that he spoke with his former teammate and current West Indies white-ball coach Daren Sammy but is yet to get any response about his place on the team.

“I have been trying to let these guys know I’m still willing to put my body on the line for West Indies cricket but no one has really come to me and said anything to me upfront.

“We [Sammy and I] spoke earlier when he just got the job and he said that he wants to know what I am up to and what I am available for, [but] then everything stopped. I haven’t heard from him after that. Obviously, he was busy with the [50-over] squad at the [recent] World Cup qualifiers [in Zimbabwe] so I not going to jump to anything,” he stated.
