Apna hi toh personal hota hain: Shah Rukh Khan fires ultimatum to selectors about Rinku Singh ahead of T20 World Cup squad selection

Team India's squad for the all-important ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be announced this week. As per reports, the national selectors will be meeting in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (April 30) to finalise the squad for the marquee event that will be played in June this year.

And ahead of the squad selection, Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has sent a timely reminder to the selectors about his desire to see Rinku Singh in the team. Shah Rukh is eager to see the KKR batter in the India squad for the World Cup, scheduled to be played in the United States and the West Indies.

Rinku Singh is in contention for the T20 World Cup after his impressive display in the shortest format of the game in recent months. He had an amazing campaign in the last edition of the IPL which eventually paved the way for his debut in international cricket. Rinku Singh hit the ground running in international cricket as well and is seen by many as an ideal candidate for the finisher's role in the team.

Shah Rukh Khan's message to the selectors:

Hours before the selectors' meeting in Ahmedabad, Shah Rukh revealed his wish to see Rinku Singh play his first T20 World Cup in the coming days. Speaking to Star Sports after KKR's match against Delhi Capitals, the veteran actor said:

"Being able to participate in the journey of the youngsters, who have gone to become such amazing players and playing for the country. I am really looking forward to Rinku being in the World Cup squad and some other youngsters from other teams as well, who deserve it so much.

"But apna hi toh personal hota hain (but since he is with us, it is personal). So if Rinku reaches the squad, I will be very happy," he added.

Talking about the game, KKR thrashed DC by seven wickets to get back to winning ways. After restricting DC to 153/9, KKR chased down the total inside 17 overs by losing only three wickets. 

Rinku Singh in IPL 2024:

Unlike the last season when he scored 474 runs at an average of almost 60 and a strike-rate of 150, Rinku Singh has struggled to make an impact with the bat in IPL 2024. He has hardly got the opportunity to bat this season. In 9 games so far, the southpaw has faced only 82 deliveries and scored 123 runs.

He did have a chance to bat for long against DC on Monday (April 29). However, the Uttar Pradesh star failed to stay on the crease for long and was dismissed by Lizaad Williams for run-a-ball 11. He will be hoping to get some opportunities in the remaining games to prepare himself for the T20 World Cup.
