Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has stirred up controversy with his bold comments on social media regarding the recent incident involving Haris Rauf. However, Shehzad condemned the abuse faced by Rauf by a fan in the USA, but he didn't shy away from criticizing the pacer and his teammates' poor performances in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Shehzad took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration at the Pakistan cricket team, saying that the verbal attack on Rauf was unacceptable, but the players' social media posts in support of the speedster should not distract the team's dismal performance at the T20 World Cup 2024, where they have won only two matches in the group stage.

His attack doesn't end there, as Shehzad criticized Pakistani players for seemingly enjoying vacations in the USA, England, and Dubai instead of returning home to face the music. He pointed out that players’ insensitivity shows a lack of accountability and respect for the fans, who expect better from their national heroes on the global stage.

Shehzad asserted that the players owe the nation an apology and should express shame for their failures, saying the players should not make Rauf’s incident propaganda to hide from the fury of the whole nation.

Attacking Pakistan players for focusing on personal glory over national pride, Shehzad pointed out that they have not delivered any major trophies or achievements for Pakistan in the last five years.

Ahmed Shehzad posted on X: “While we fully condemn what happened to Haris Rauf, it is also important that the posts put up by the players in support of Haris should be taken away from the fans due to his poor performance in the World Cup. It should have been as an apology.

It would be good if these players would apologize to the nation, if these players would be ashamed and if these players would return to Pakistan instead of spending holidays in America, England or Dubai. These posts by the players should not change the narrative and the fans should get answers for the poor performances of the players.

Accountability is very important now. The same group of players have not won anything for our country in the last five years and they have kept prioritizing personal milestones rather than the collective success of Pakistan.”
