Aakash Chopra's latest statement on Arshdeep Singh would certainly raise many eyebrows, as the young Indian pacer continues to make waves with his stellar rise. Highlighting his meteoric rise, Chopra compared Arshdeep with Jasprit Bumrah after the recent IPL 2025 mega auction.

Even the former Indian cricketer claimed that Arshdeep Singh may already be surpassing the premier Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah in certain aspects. Aakash Chopra said that the Punjab Kings pacer is ahead of Bumrah in terms of wicket-taking prowess.

The cricket pundit admitted that Arshdeep Singh leaks runs and his economy rate has been under scrutiny, but still, he is a better pacer than Jasprit Bumrah when it comes to wicket-taking prowess.

Chopra hailed Arshdeep’s ability to deliver with both the new and old ball. His knack for consistently taking wickets has positioned him as a big asset for Indian cricket.

Recently at the IPL 2025 mega auction, Punjab Kings broke the bank for Arshdeep after releasing him ahead of the two-day event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. However, the PBKS managed to bring Arshdeep Singh back into the fold after spending INR 18 crore, and Chopra hailed the move.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “They said at the start that they wanted Arshdeep for ₹18 crore. They would have spent that much only had they retained him. He is a Punjabi and will remain with the Punjabis, and he is very good.”

Chopra added, “New ball, old ball, Indian fast bowler, if someone is able to do that consistently after Bumrah, it's Arshdeep. In fact, he has run ahead of even Bumrah in terms of wicket-taking prowess. He remains a little expensive but has run ahead of him because he is a wicket-taker.”

Reacting to Yuzvendra Chahal's jaw-dropping INR 18 crore deal with Punjab Kings, Chopra said that it was a momentous turn for spinners in the IPL auctions. He mentioned that the spinners traditionally rarely attract such hefty sums, with only exceptional cases like Rashid Khan.

However, Chahal’s rise to the INR 18 crore mark has shattered all expectations, and Chopra feels the spinner deserves that amount as India’s premier leg-spinner. His consistent performances and ability to turn games in his team's favor have made him a great asset for any team.

Chopra further noted, “Yuzi Chahal - ₹18 crore. He kept going very far, and we were gobsmacked about how far Yuzi would go. Spinners don't get that much money. They get it at times; Rashid Khan has been retained for as much, but Rashid Khan is only one. He became very rich—₹18 crore. We are very happy because he is India's best leg-spinner. There is no doubt about that.”

Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal is India's leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket, with 96 dismissals in 79 innings at an economy rate of 8.19. He is following closely is Arshdeep Singh, who has claimed 95 wickets in just 60 innings at an economy rate of 8.32. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has 89 wickets in 69 T20I innings to his name at an impressive economy rate of 6.27.
