India's left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has revealed Rohit Sharma's words before the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The occasion was big for both India and South Africa. While this was South Africa's first-ever ICC tournament final, India hadn't won any ICC tournament since 2013.

The match was expected to be exciting and it turned out to be a nail-biter as India clinched victory by 7 runs. At one time, the Proteas were ahead and seemed to create history. But India held its nerve to pull off a stunning win.

Arshdeep Singh discloses Rohit Sharma's golden advice before the match

During an interaction with The Indian Express, Arshdeep Singh revealed that Rohit Sharma told the players to treat this match like any other match.

“There was nothing. In the team meeting, Rohit bhai specifically said that we treat it like any other match. ‘Yes the occasion is big but we will treat it like a normal day. Do your routines’. That was the clear message,” Arshdeep Singh replied when asked about what did Rohit Sharma say before the final.

Arshdeep Singh bowled the crucial 19th over of the match and gave away just 4 runs to allow India to tighten its grip on the game. When asked about his plan in the penultimate over, the youngster revealed that the captain asked him to bowl as he has throughout the tournament.

“There was no such talk. Rohit bhai came and said tu jaisa daalta aya hai World Cup mey bas wahi kar (Bowl the way you have bowled in the World Cup). My idea was to try and bowl dots.” Arshdeep said.

Indian seamers shine in the final

After Arshdeep's four-run over, South Africa required 16 runs in the final over to win the match, which was bowled by Hardik Pandya. In the first ball of the over, Miller skewed the ball high in the air only to find Suryakumar Yadav at long off taking a catch for the ages.

The wicket of Miller almost ended South Africa's hopes as the tailenders tried their best but couldn't take their team across the line. Indian seamers had a fantastic day and made up for a disappointing performance by the spinners.

The fast bowlers took 7 wickets for just 58 runs in 11 overs and didn't allow the Proteas to get across the line. Arshdeep Singh finished with excellent figures of 2-20 in four overs. Pace ace Jasprit Bumrah led the pack with fabulous figures of 2-18 in four overs, which included a breathtaking second spell, in which he conceded just 6 runs in two overs and picked up the wicket of Marco Jansen.

Allrounder Hardik Pandya picked up three wickets, which included the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen that turned out to be the game-changing moment. Earlier, Virat Kohli scored a valiant 76 off 59 balls, which took India to 176-7 in 20 overs. Axar Patel and Shivam Dube also contributed with quickfire cameos.
