Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar thrown aside as Paras Mhambrey demands another pacer for IND vs AUS Tests
Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey feels that Prasidh Krishna must have a good Duleep Trophy season so that he gets selected in India's squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
According to Mhambrey, Krishna's ability to generate extra bounce could prove to be crucial on Australian wickets.
Prasidh Krishna was earlier selected to play for Team A in the Duleep Trophy 2024 but was later ruled out as he is completing his rehabilitation following surgery for his quadriceps tendon.
He will miss the opening round of the tournament but is expected to be available later.
Paras Mhambrey wants Prasidh Krishna to be India's "third seamer" in BGT 2024-25
While speaking to Cricbuzz, Paras Mhambrey stated that Indian quicks need to make full use of the new Kookaburra ball within the first 30-35 overs.
"Obviously in Australia, the Kookaburra is different and you need to make use of the 30-35 overs with the newish ball because that's when you can look to pick wickets. You are going to want to look at who can give you those wickets, what are skillsets that you feel are going to be important," Mhambrey said.
He further mentioned that Prasidh Krishna can be India's third fast bowler for the Test series against Australia as he has the height and can generate good bounce.
Mhambrey further added that Krishna is different from others and he can use the bounce to great effect after the pitch gets flat.
"Having that bounce is going to be important, and that is why I want to see how someone like Prasidh shapes up. And I want him to have a great Duleep Trophy then straightaway you have a third seamer who is different from the others. Because later on after the 30-35 overs, it does get flat and you need to have someone to have something different and the bounce is something you can use," he added.
Prasidh Krishna's international record
Prasidh Krishna is long seen as one of India's talents for the future. His height and extra pace give him an X-factor over the other bowlers.
This is the reason why he went on to make his Test debut even after playing just 15 first-class matches in his career.
Prasidh Krishna has played two Tests in his career so far and both of them came in South Africa last year.
However, he failed to make a big impression on the helpful South African conditions on offer. The fast bowler has picked up 2 wickets in 2 matches so far at an average of 65.
Apart from playing Tests, Krishna has played 17 ODIs and 5 T20Is as well. He has picked up 29 wickets in ODI cricket at an average of 25.58.
Some constant injury issues have also prevented him from being available in some important matches of his career.
Prasidh Krishna can be a key bowler for India if he gets selected in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
With his pace and bounce, he can trouble the Australian batters, especially on pitches like Perth, where the first Test of the series will be played.
