Ashwin Krishnan, head of sports marketing at Oakley, remembers meeting a young Virat Kohli many years ago and hearing him concede that, at least in ODI cricket, he will surpass Tendulkar’s records.
Kohli had the self-assurance and conviction that he could match Sachin Tendulkar’s batting accomplishments even when he was a young man.
Despite his awful performance, Kohli remains the only cricketer playing in the current age who has a chance to surpass the legendary Tendulkar in terms of records. He is only six ODI hundreds short of Tendulkar’s total, having scored 43 of them.
It says a lot about Kohli’s dedication and perseverance that he is included with Tendulkar in this line.
No one could have anticipated the kind of ascent Kohli would experience when he made his India debut in 2012 at the age of 19. By 2013, Kohli had emerged as the batting phenom for India, and for the following seven years, he would rule the game of cricket.
‘Virat Kohli’s one-day record is phenomenal’: Ashwin Krishnan
Head of Oakley’s Sports Marketing Ashwin Krishnan remembers meeting a young Virat Kohli years ago and hearing him concede that, at the very least in ODI cricket, he will surpass Tendulkar’s records.
“An understatement would be to say that Virat Kohli’s one-day record is phenomenal. And whether he reaches Sachin’s record or not is not important; the fact that he is getting closer is. Here is a quick tale I will share with you. For Oakley, we traveled to LA in 2013 to sign Virat. The two of us were seated.”
For a long time, Virat Kohli has been performing poorly. The batter failed to score runs for India National Cricket Team in all three formats during the recently concluded all-format tour of England.
