Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden believes that England will continue with their aggressive style of play in the upcoming matches in the Ashes 2023 series. Matthew Hayden stated that the Pat Cummins-led team can learn a bit from England’s Bazball approach in red-ball cricket.

Australia registered a two-wicket victory against England in the first match of the series at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Pat Cummins scored match-winning runs to start their campaign with a win. Cummins added an unbeaten 55-run partnership with Nathan Lyon in the 281-run chase.

“‘Look, we didn’t get that result but that’s not going to stop the way that we want to go about our business’. In fact, I reckon Australian cricket can learn a bit from it (BazBall). It was a brilliant five days. You couldn’t stop watching it,” he added.

Hayden pointed out that Usman Khawaja, who scored 65 runs off 197 balls in the second innings, needed to add ‘Bazball’ to his batting.

“Even when I think back to Usman’s second innings – and this is being incredibly critical – but there was a time where he really needed to have a bit of BazBall himself and be inspired by it,” he further stated.

He Can Be An Absolute Rockstar – Matthew Hayden

The 51-year-old said that Cameron Green didn’t play up to his potential in the Test match, adding that the all-rounder played quite defensively.

“He was really in a situation where he was locking down the run rate and occupying the crease and then you’ve got a young Cameron Green who was doing the same, trying to find his tempo in Test cricket. We know and we’ve seen through his T20 performances that he can be an absolute rockstar in terms of the way that he plays,” he continued.
