Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has advised Ben Stokes to be transparent about his bowling ability against Australia in Ashes 2023. Hussain said that Stokes needs to be honest about his bowling and tell the England team clearly whether he will be able to bowl in Ashes 2023 or not.

Ben Stokes is set to lead England in Ashes 2023. The England Test skipper was battling a knee injury in recent months. Due to this knee issue, the English all-rounder only played 2 games in IPL 2023 for his team Chennai Super Kings. In the recent one-off Test against Ireland, Stokes did not bowl any overs in the match.

Ben Stokes Has To Be Honest: Nasser Hussain

While writing for his column in Daily Mail, cricketer-turned-commentator Nasser Hussain said that Ben Stokes needs to be honest with the England team on his ability to bowl in Ashes 2023.

“Stokes has to be honest. If he can’t bowl in a Test, he will have to tell England and they may have to then change the balance of the side. But that does become incredibly tricky because Stokes is two cricketers and with the captaincy, he is now three cricketers,” Hussain wrote.

Hussain also added that Ben Stokes did a lot of fitness work during IPL 2023 which would have helped him to prepare himself for Ashes 2023.

“He had looked as good in the outfield as I’ve seen him in a long time and I watched him bowl before play for about 20 minutes when he appeared pain-free. So my gut feeling is that he will perform at Edgbaston next week how he has done for some time now – Stokes will bowl when he has to”.

“Stokes did a lot of fitness work during the IPL to get ready for the Ashes and only playing in two matches in India appeared to have done him a favor,” Hussein further added.
