Australia captain Pat Cummins admitted that they failed to win the Ashes series in England in 2019 despite being in a winning position. Pat Cummins stated that they failed to grab the opportunities last time and hoped that they would register the series win in 2023.

Australia started the five-match Test series with a victory in the Ashes 2019 series. Australia were in the second Test but drew the rain-affected game. The Kangaroo team led the series 2-1 before the final Test, where they displayed poor performance and lost the match.

The Core Of Our Side Is Similar – Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins stated that the Australia team had a similar core of players as last time for the upcoming Ashes series.

“I felt like we left something behind in 2019. I think the second and third Tests were both ours to win and, obviously, the fifth Test we didn’t play particularly well,” Pat Cummins told WA.

“Those opportunities are rare over in England, and we just didn’t quite grab a couple that came up. But again, the core of our side is similar this time around to 2019 – as is theirs – so hopefully we’re better for it,” he added.

Australia hasn’t won the Test series in England since the Ashes victory in 2001. The mighty Australians, led by Steve Waugh, registered a convincing 4-1 win and retained the Ashes series. The Aussies lost the next four series in England before drawing the series in 2019.

I’m Sure He’ll Bring That Fire – Pat Cummins

The Australian Test skipper backed opener, David Warner, to excel in the upcoming matches in the longer format, including the World Test Championship final.

“Looking from afar, he looks like he’s done a fantastic job for Delhi. He’s shown his form and I still know that him walking out to bat, there’s not a bowler in the world that doesn’t have that bit of trepidation bowling at Dave Warner,” he further added.
