Veteran Australian opener Usman Khawaja expressed his disappointment with the behaviour of the English crowd during the ongoing 2023 Ashes series. Usman Khawaja described the atmosphere as rough and stated that he wouldn’t want to bring his kids to the stadium.

Australia players, including Usman Khawaja, were involved in a verbal altercation with a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in Lord’s Long Room. The England media targeted Alex Carey following the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow in the second Test.

I Don’t Think It’s The Right Thing To Do – Usman Khawaja

Speaking ahead of the fourth Test of the Ashes 2023, Usman Khawaja expressed his concerns regarding the abusive behaviour of the crowd. He mentioned that Travis Head, too, faced a significant amount of abuse from the spectators.

“I mean, they’re rough. If you talk about it to England guys, they say we are equally as rough when [they go to Australia]. I don’t agree with it either way. I don’t think it’s the right thing to do. Personally, if I am coming to the cricket and watching the cricket, I wouldn’t want my kids to be around that,” he said.

“If I saw that, I would 100 per cent make a complaint or just leave. I think some of the stuff can be pretty poor. Over at Edgbaston, they were calling Travis Head a cu … you know what. I can’t believe you can actually say that in a public domain anywhere,” he added.

The Ashes series has been fiercely competitive, with the scoreline currently at 2-1 in favor of Australia. The intense rivalry between the two teams has made for captivating cricket. It Doesn’t Bother Me – Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja stated that the incidents do not personally bother him, but he emphasized that he will not hesitate to respond if it becomes necessary.

“MCC are all over it. I trust them to do the right thing. I know watching a lot of sport and loving sport that it happens around the world. You watch the NBA, it happens there,” he further stated.

“Particularly when crowds can get real close to you, which they can in cricket. It is what it is, I don’t agree with it. I have been doing it my whole life, it doesn’t bother me. And if it does, I will let them know,” he concluded.

The Marylebone Cricket Club has suspended three members involved in the altercation with Usman Khawaja during the Lord’s Test and has apologized to the Australian team. The fourth Test of the Ashes series will commence on Wednesday, July 19 at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester.
