Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised England pacer Mark Wood for his exceptional bowling display on Day 1 of the third Test against Australia. Sanjay Manjrekar suggested that the Indian team should consider fast-tracking Umran Malik into red-ball cricket due to his extra pace.

Mark Wood made a significant impact by taking five wickets against Australia at Headingley. The right-arm pacer hasn’t played any Test matches for England this year. Wood bowled with express pace and accuracy, playing a key role in bowling out the Australian team for 263 in their first innings.

Extra Pace In The Bowling Attack Has One Advantage – Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that the extra pace is an added advantage in the longer format of the game, especially against tailenders.

“In Tests, extra pace ( Mark Wood) in the bowling attack has one advantage. The tail does not wag as much. India could trial some one like Umran Mallik for this reason,” Sanjay Manjrekar tweeted.

Mark Wood Consistently Clocked 150kmph

Mark Wood’s exceptional pace and consistency made a significant impact on Day 1 in the third match in the Ashes 2023 series. The right-arm pacer consistently clocked speeds of over 150 kmph, troubling the Australian batsmen. He picked up the crucial wickets, including Usman Khawaja.

The 33-year-old proved to be the catalyst in causing a collapse in Australia’s first innings, as they went from 240-4 to 263 all out in just nine overs. The pacer dismissed the last four Australian batters to wrap up the tail, including Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Alex Carey, and Todd Murphy.
