Australian pacer Mitchell Starc stated that he has no regrets about not participating in franchise cricket, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Big Bash League (BBL). Mitchell Starc said that representing Australia in cricket means a lot more to him than playing franchise cricket for easy money.

The left-arm pacer is one of the few players to have won ICC titles in all formats, following a victory against India in the recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval in London. Starc picked up four wickets in the match and scored a crucial 41 runs with the bat in Australia’s second innings.

Mitchell Starc said that it is a special feeling for him to play for his country in international cricket ahead of many aspiring cricketers.

“I don’t regret any of it, money will come and go but I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had,” Starc was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“Over a hundred years of Test cricket and there’s been less than 500 men who have played it for Australia, that in itself makes it very special to be a part of it,” he added.

I’ve Been Fortunate Enough – Mitchell Starc

The 33-year-old fast bowler stated that he would rather wear a baggy green cap than play franchise cricket around the world.

“There’s nothing I love more in cricket than to sit back with my teammates at the end of a Test win and reflect on the success we’ve had that week,” he further added.

“To be able to pull on the baggy green with a lot of my close mates, guys I’ve grown up in the game with. I mean, franchise cricket is great, but you can be bought or sold or traded in 12 months, whereas this is an opportunity that I’ve been fortunate enough to have over 10 years now,” Mitchell Starc added.

Starc represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL in the 2014 and 2015 editions. The pacer didn’t put his name in the auction to keep him fresh for the international matches. He picked up 34 wickets in 27 innings, with an average of 20.38 and an impressive economy rate of 7.17.
