Australia opener Usman Khawaja labelled the first Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 series against England as his favourite match of all time in his international career. Usman Khawaja praised his teammates for their performance to make a remarkable comeback in the final hour of Day 5 to win the epic Test match.

Usman Khawaja was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant batting performance in Australia’s two-wicket victory over England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The left-handed batter scored 141 runs in the first inning and added a crucial 65-run knock in the second innings.

Speaking after the victory against England, Khawaja said that the 2022 Sydney Test during the last Ashes series, which was his comeback match, still holds a special place in his heart.

“SCG was special, it was unexpected. My career was over in my head. I’ve said it a million times but it was. Hard to beat that from an individual point of view but from a team point of view, and wins, this is by far my favourite match ever in my life,” Khawaja said.

“The way it ebbed and flowed, the way they came out, the way we counterattacked, it looked like we’d lost the game probably with an hour to go and to come back and win, by far my favourite game of all time,” he added.

I Genuinely Just Expect Labuschagne To Score A Hundred Next Game – Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja backed Marnus Labuschagne following his poor performance with the bat in the first Test. The left-handed batter predicted that Labuschagne would score a hundred in the next game.

“I genuinely just expect [Labuschagne] to score a hundred next game. We had potentially our two best batters not score runs this game. It’s very unlikely, doesn’t happen very often,” he further added.

“In my opinion, the greatest batter of my era in Test cricket, Steve Smith, not very often he misses out twice. We’ve still got four Ashes Tests. Might be a good thing for us, they have some runs in the bank,” he concluded.

Labuschagne scored a duck and 13 runs in the two innings of the match. Stuart Broad dismissed Labuschagne in both innings for a low score. Steve Smith, on the other hand, scored 22 runs in the match. Labuschagne and Smith are the top two batters in the ICC Test rankings.
