England batting coach Marcus Trescothick believes that the Ben Stokes-led team still has a chance to secure a victory in the second Test match of the ongoing Ashes series. Marcus Trescothick stated that England’s chances will depend on the batting performance of skipper Ben Stokes.
The England team ended the fourth day’s play with 114 runs at Lord’s. Ben Duckett played a crucial knock in the second innings despite losing four early wickets. Duckett added an unbeaten 69-run partnership with Ben Stokes for the fifth wicket. The home team required 257 on the final day.

We Can Challenge Them – Marcus Trescothick
Marcus Trescothick believes that England’s chances of staying in the game would be higher as long as Ben Stokes remains at the crease. Trescothick emphasized the importance of one big innings in the long-run chase.
“I think there’s always hope with Ben there, two Bens there, Jonny coming in and the bowlers,” Trescothick told the BBC.
“If someone can get a big score, we can challenge them and try and overcome it. We’re still fairly upbeat, we’re a positive unit. We have good days and bad days. You enjoy it on a good day, but you don’t get too down on a bad day. You take the rough with the smooth,” he added.

It’s Going To Be An Exciting Final Day – Marcus Trescothick
The former England opener stated that Australian bowlers did well with the new ball in the second innings.
“It’s finely balanced. We’ve got a big job to do. We didn’t want to lose the wickets at the top order but we faced some beautiful balls, it’s not out of the question yet. Whatever happens tomorrow, it’s going to be an exciting final day,” he concluded.
England lost four wickets for just 45 runs in a 371-run chase on the fourth day. Zak Crawley (3), Ollie Pope (3), Harry Brook (4), and Joe Root (18) failed to impress with the bat. Australian seamers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc picked up two wickets each in England’s second innings.
