Satisfied with the performance of the batting consultant of the Bangladesh Cricket Team, the BCB has decided to extend the agreement with former South African batter, Ashwell Prince, till the ICC T20 World Cup which will take place in the United Arab Emirates and Oman between October 17-November 14.
Ashwell Prince was initially signed up by the Bangladesh Cricket Board till the Zimbabwe series. However, a good show by the Bangladeshi batters in the African nation and positive feedback from the players has led to the board extending the agreement with Ashwell Prince,
BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan confirmed the boards’ decision during an interaction with the media on Monday.
“We had appointed him for the Zimbabwe series initially. Since it will be hard to get a coach before the World T20I, we took a bit of feedback and it has been generally positive. I think some of our batsmen did really well in Zimbabwe. Some of the players told us that they have confidence in him. They are satisfied with his work,” said Akram as quoted by Dhaka Tribune.
That said, the negotiation on terms for the agreement between Ashwell Prince and the BCB are yet to come to a conclusion, the report said.
If both parties come to an agreement on the negotiations then the national side will have the services of Prince for the remainder of the season which is expected to be a pretty hectic one.
The Asian nation, who swept the entire tour of Zimbabwe by winning the one-off Test before whitewashing the home side in the ODI and T20I series, will now host Australia in a five-match T20I series in Dhaka, post which they will also lock horns with New Zealand ahead of the T20 World Cup.
For the uninitiated, The Asian Tigers will have to compete in the T20 World Cup qualifiers in order to make it to the main round. They are placed alongside Scotland, PNG, and hosts Oman in Group B and the Asian Tigers will have to ensure they finish in the top-2 in order to qualify for the Super-12.
