When Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was asked who will bat at the no.4 position for India during Asia Cup 2023, he said that all positions are important for the team and it’s not one position that matters.

India’s squad for Asia Cup 2023 was announced on Monday. A total of 17 players under skipper Rohit Sharma have been picked for the tournament. Notably, a few middle-order batters are part of India’s squad for Asia Cup 2023 and it is unclear who will take the no.4 slot for India during the tournament.

Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and KL Rahul are key middle-order batters for India in Asia Cup 2023 squad. Virat Kohli takes the permanent no.3 position for India. However, due to injuries of some players, there have been changes at the no.4 batting slot this year.

All Positions Are Important, It’s Not About Just One Position: Rohit Sharma

During the press conference of the Asia Cup 2023 squad reveal, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was asked who will take the No.4 slot for Team India in Asia Cup 2023. To this, Sharma replied that all positions are important for the team. He also added that the team will figure out which combinations suit them.

“It is not about just one position…all positions are important. We have had injuries along the lines and that is the reason we needed to manage that load. We need to figure what combination suits. Want to give all players a chance,” Rohit Sharma said.

We Want Guys Who Can Bat Anywhere When Needed: Rohit Sharma

The Indian opener also added that the team want players who can bat anywhere when the need arises. Therefore, they should be ready to play in any position that the team needs.

“No one should be in the team saying I’m good at this position. We want guys who can bat anywhere when needed. Not just now but this has been the case for many years.

The message has been conveyed. This is international cricket and not club cricket. They have to be ready to play in any position that the team needs,” the right-handed batsman further said.

Meanwhile, with the return of Shreyas Iyer to the Indian team, it will be interesting to see who will take the no.4 batting position for India in Asia Cup 2023. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav also plays in the same slot.

Tilak Varma, who has been picked in the squad after his fabulous batting show in IND vs WI T20I series, also bats in the middle-order. In the IND vs WI T20I series, Varma made crucial knocks at the no.4 spot.
