All eyes are on the selectors and the BCCI as the India squad for the Asia Cup 2023 is set to be announced in the coming days. The continental championship is scheduled to start from August 30 and the teams have started announcing their squads.

Last week, Pakistan and Bangladesh announced their squads for Asia Cup 2023 while tournament debutants Nepal did it on Monday (August 14). Team India, Afghanistan, and reigning champions Sri Lanka are yet to announce the squads and are expected to do it soon.

Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played from August 30 to September 17. A total of six teams will be participating in the sixteenth edition of the tournament. The six teams have been divided into two groups – India, Pakistan, and Nepal are in Group A while Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh are in Group B. The top two teams from each group will make it to the Super 4 stage.

Dates for India squad announcement:

The India squad for Asia Cup 2023 is likely to be announced by August 20, according to a report from ESPNcricinfo. While it was expected to be announced at the start of the ongoing week, the BCCI has decided to delay the announcement in order to take a final call on a few players who are returning from injuries. Both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are yet to get the green light to make their return to competitive cricket.

Rahul is out since May due to a thigh injury while Iyer has been sidelined with a back injury since March. Both players are currently taking part in match simulations at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The duo will also play a couple of practice games before a final call on their availability is taken.

The delay in the India squad announcement will give the selectors more chance to assess the duo. It will also give the batsmen the best chance to feature in the tournament which is a crucial competition to prepare for the World Cup in October-November.

After the India squad is announced, the players are also set to undergo a week-long conditioning camp in Bengaluru from August 23-29 before leaving for Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue are scheduled to open their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Pakistan on September 2 in Pallekele.
