Asia Cup 2023: Indian Players Who Will Be Benched Throughout The Tournament. India is set to wrestle with five teams in Asia Cup 2023, which begins on August 30. India will play their opening game of Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan on September 2. With Pakistan and Nepal, India is part of Group A in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma leads India in Asia Cup 2023. India has named a 17-member squad for the tournament. Players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah are back in the team after missing the field for a long time due to injuries.

While India has picked powerful names in the squad, there are a few players who might not get a chance to play a single match in the tournament. Here we talk about 3 Indian players who will be benched throughout Asia Cup 2023.

3. Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma is the first name on this list. Tilak Varma’s entry in Asia Cup 2023 was a little surprising for everyone. However, Varma has also showcased marvelous form in his recent debut series to get an invite to the squad.

Although the left-handed batsman has been picked in the India squad, it is highly unlikely that he might get to play a game. In the middle-order, India has players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav. Moreover, Tilak Varma has no experience in ODIs. Hence, management might shy away from picking him in any game.

2. Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna is another Indian player who might not get a chance to play any game during Asia Cup 2023. Krishna, who returned to the Indian team in IND vs IRE series, has not played a single ODI game this year.

Krishna last played for India in August 2022. He was not picked in some series. Later ahead of IPL 2023, the right-arm seamer got injured and remained out of the field. After his recovery, he was picked for the T20I series against Ireland where he made his T20I debut.

However, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna has less chance of getting a place as a pacer in the playing XI during Asia Cup.

1. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is the third player on this list. Ishan Kishan has been picked as a backup wicketkeeper with KL Rahul. However, the left-handed batsman only plays as an opener. There are no doubts that India will play Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as openers in Asia Cup 2023.

Sharma is the skipper of the team and Gill is the most successful batter for India this year. If Ishan Kishan has to be part of playing XI, he will need a vacant spot at the top. His performance in the middle order has not been impressive. Hence, Kishan might warm the bench throughout the tournament.
