Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has backed Virat Kohli to play as long as he wants and play all formats as a response to Shoaib Akhtar’s comments on the Indian star batter.
Talks related to Virat Kohli retiring from white-ball cricket have been happening for a long time. His dip in form and his failure of scoring hundreds for two years between 2020-2022 made former cricketers make all kinds of opinions about him.
However, Kohli has found his form well and truly back since the Asia Cup 2022. His unbeaten knock against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup match in Melbourne remains a testament to the fact that Kohli is still able to play all three formats.
However, Shoaib Akhtar’s recent comments on Kohli’s future have been making a lot of rounds in the media.
“I don’t think he should play more 50-overs matches after this World Cup. Also, if you see him in T20s, it takes a lot out of him. I think he should play for at least six more years and break the 100 hundreds record of Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has it in him to break the record. He should focus on Test cricket after this World Cup, and break this record” said Akhtar on Kohli’s future on RevSportz.

However, Ganguly was quick to point out that Kohli is still good enough to play every format and should play all three formats as long as he wants.
“Virat Kohli should play whatever cricket he wants to play, because he performs” Ganguly responded to Akhtar’s comments in a sarcastic tone.
Akhtar made another big comment on the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and Team India in the World Cup. He feels that Rohit Sharma does not have the team to win the ODI World Cup at home. India last won an ICC World Cup in 2011 which was hosted jointly by India under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
“Make no mistake, Rohit does have the team to win the World Cup. As a batter, he is perhaps more talented than Virat Kohli also. He is a classical batsman and the kind of shots he plays, it is just mind-blowing. But with captaincy, is he being able to do that? Let him prove me wrong and all of us wrong, for that’s what all of India will want him to do in this World Cup” Akhtar said on Rev Sportz.
