The India National Cricket Team is all set to break their ages-old tradition ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, starting on September 9 in the UAE. The Suryakumar Yadav-led 15-member squad is currently gearing up for the continental tournament in Bengaluru.

The Men in Blue are likely to reach Dubai on September 4, as their Asia Cup 2025 campaign is set to get underway on September 10 against the UAE in Dubai. Almost all the players of the squad have cleared their fitness tests for the upcoming tournament at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.

But for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, the Indian players will fly directly from their respective cities to Dubai, making travel smoother and more convenient. However, the 15-member squad will have to be in Dubai by the evening of September 4.

Their first net session is scheduled at the ICC Academy in Dubai on September 5, giving them a couple of days to settle in and fine-tune preparations for the tournament. This change in travel arrangements is made to reduce unnecessary transit and fatigue.

BCCI eases travel for Asia Cup 2025

A senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI, “All the players will arrive in Dubai by the evening of September 4, and the first nets session will be held on September 5 at the ICC Academy. Factoring in the logistical convenience, the players will be allowed to fly into Dubai from their respective cities.”

The official further explained, “Obviously, a few will travel from Mumbai, but to ask some of the others to first come to Mumbai and then fly to Dubai doesn’t make sense. In any case, Dubai is a short-duration flight compared to other international flights.”

Well, another reason could be that BCCI would want to avoid the media in Mumbai amid the uproar over the India-Pakistan match in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. There is a lot of anger among fans, former cricketers, and politicians regarding the India-Pakistan match.

In such a situation, they would want to avoid the media before such an important tournament, as it might distract them from their goal.

Key players gain match practice in Duleep Trophy 2025

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue will kick off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the UAE on September 10, before facing their arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 in their second game in Dubai. They will then take on Oman on September 19 in their final group-stage match.

On the other hand, some players selected for the Asia Cup are playing in the Duleep Trophy. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are representing North Zone against East Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2025 quarterfinals, while Kuldeep Yadav is playing for Central Zone against North East Zone.

The BCCI official has also confirmed that standby players Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar will not be travelling with the main squad as net bowlers.
