The 2025 Asia Cup is reportedly set to be cancelled because of the rising tension between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The bilateral relationship between the two countries is at an all-time low following the attack that led to the killing of 26 civilians. Soon after the attack and its links to Pakistan emerged, the Indian government initiated a series of diplomatic actions, such as the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and the visa services of Pakistani nationals.

Pakistani nationals are no longer allowed to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas. All the Pakistanis in India on the SVES visas were also ordered to leave India in 48 hours.

Asia Cup 2025 set to be cancelled:

The deteriorating relationship between India and Pakistan is set to have a big impact on cricket as well. Both teams have not played a bilateral series against each other since the 2012-13 season, while the last Test series between them took place way back in 2007.

India have also not visited Pakistan since 2008. Earlier this year, India played all of their Champions Trophy games in the UAE even though Pakistan had the hosting rights. Since the suspension of the bilateral cricketing ties, India and Pakistan have played against each other only in Asia Cups and ICC tournaments.

India and Pakistan last played against each other in the Champions Trophy, with the former winning the game and going on to win the tournament. However, it looks like the arch-rivals are unlikely to face each other in the Asia Cup as well this year.

According to a report in Cricket Adda, the Asia Cup is unlikely to take place. The tournament was scheduled to take place in September this year.

"Through very reliable sources, we have solid news: Asia Cup will not happen this time. It was scheduled for September, and had it taken place, there would definitely have been an India-Pakistan match. And quite possibly, both teams could have met again in the final," said the Cricket Adda anchor.

"But not this time. One side is preparing for war—on the other hand, hosting Asia Cup is out of the question. There’s no chance of it happening. Asia Cup is cancelled. That’s solid news," he added.

As per reports, India have the hosting rights for the Asia Cup this year, although it is likely to be played at a neutral venue if it indeed takes place. Eight teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong - have qualified for the tournament.
