England and Australia were sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for maintaining a slow over-rate in the recently concluded Ashes series. England and Australia had crucial points deducted from their tally in the ICC World Test Championship for the 2023-2025 cycle.

The Ben Stokes-led team and the Pat Cummins-led team were involved in a thrilling five-match Test series in the English summer. The visitors won the first two games of the series, while the hosts won two of the remaining three games. The series ended in a draw with a scoreline of 2-2.

Australia And England Sanctioned By ICC

Following the completion of the series, Australia have been docked 10 WTC points for a slow over-rate during the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. Meanwhile, England National Cricket Team lost a total of 19 points for maintaining a slow over-rate in four out of five games.

England failed to meet the required over-rate in several Tests, falling short by two overs in the first Test at Edgbaston, nine in the second Test at Lord’s, three in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, and five in the final Test at The Oval. Teams are expected to bowl 90 overs per day in Tests.

Australia have also been fined 40 percent of their match fees for bowling less than 10 overs in the required time in the fourth Test. England were handed a 10 percent fine for the first Test, 45 percent for the second, 15 percent for the fourth, and 25 percent for the fifth Test match, respectively.

Australia retained their third spot in the ICC WTC points table after the completion of the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval. The Aussies were in third place on the table with 43.33 percentage points, while England improved their points percentage from 29.13 to 43.33 percentage points with the win.
