The incident that took place during Australia’s T20 skipper Aaron Finch‘s team’s tight loss to England in the first T20I in Perth on Sunday led to an official punishment (October 9). Finch was deemed to have violated the Level 1 ICC Code of Conduct by using foul language during England’s innings’ ninth over.
Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “usage of an audible obscenity during an International Match,” was determined to have been broken by the Australia captain.
One Demerit Point Added To Aaron Finch’s Disciplinary Record
Aaron Finch was given an official reprimand and one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record after admitting to the offence. Although this was Finch’s first infraction in the past 24 months, the Australian batter faces the possibility of a suspension should additional infractions occur throughout the rest of the series or at the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
Four or more demerit points accrued during a 24-month period are converted to suspension points, which results in a player’s ban. Before the defending champions begin their T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Sydney on October 22, Finch will captain Australia in the last two Twenty20 Internationals against England in Canberra this week.

Aaron Finch To Open The Innings In Next T20
For Australia’s forthcoming T20 match against England, Finch declared he will move back to the top of the order.
“We’re going to keep trying things. I’m going to go back to the top for the next game, which was always the plan,” he told Fox Cricket after Sunday’s defeat.
“We’d get to the first two (T20s against West Indies) and then this game, then I’d go back to the top as preparation for the World Cup. It was just about giving (Cameron Green) an opportunity at the top and to keep trying things.
After this little burst, especially (with) guys coming off a lot of injuries as well … you have to be prepared. So just trying to get as many games into Greeny in case he has to be called into the squad,” he added.
