Candice Warner, the wife of Australia star David Warner, has made sensational revelations about the vile abuse faced by her husband and his teammates during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s.

The thrilling Test was marred by the scuffle between the Australia players and the MCC members in the Lord’s Long Room at lunch on day five after J0nny Bairstow’s contentious dismissal. With Alex Carey dismissing Bairstow at a very crucial juncture of the game, the enraged English fans at Lord’s made their displeasure very clear by booing and jeering the Australian players.

And all hell broke loose when the Australian players were making their way to the dressing room through the Long Room. The players received a hostile reception in the historic room and the likes of David Warner and Usman Khawaja were also seen having an animated discussion with a few members. Later, videos revealed the extent of the abuse received by the Australian players.

Candice Warner reveals more details:

Candice Warner has now opened up on the incident and has sensationally claimed that a few Australian players were also kicked during the infamous incident. Calling the incident ‘disgusting’, Candice Warner stated that she saw everything from very close as she was sitting just beside the Member’s Pavilion at the iconic stadium. She revealed that the Australian players faced abuse even after the end of the game.

“It was pretty disgusting, we were in a box on the left hand side of the Member’s Pavilion. That whole Test was pretty grubby, to be completely honest. It wasn’t just what was going on there (in the Long Room as players were abused),” Candice Warner told Fox Sports’ The Back Page.

“The amount of alcohol that was consumed, you’re allowed to take two bottles in with you unlike in Australia where you obviously cannot.

“It was very disappointing, even after the game when the supporters stuck around. There were players like Starcy and Pat Cummins trying to do their media, the vile abuse kept going.

“It wasn’t just those images there (where the Aussies walked through the Long Room). It continued two flights of stairs up to the changeroom and two more flights of stairs up to where the boys were having lunch. You don’t want to see that anywhere.

“There were some players who actually were touched, were kicked. Usman Khawaja was really upset at what was directed at him as well,” she added.

Australia had gone on to win the game by 43 runs despite Ben Stokes’ heroics with the bat. The five-match series is currently at 2-1 in Australia’s favour. Australia are on the verge of winning their first Ashes series in England since 2001.
