If this was not enough he was then asked by one of the individuals if he expects Moeen Ali to go around asking Muslims he didn’t know whether they knew terrorists in between matches. Vaughan’s reply caught many by surprise as he replied Yes, if it helps “our kids future and environment become a safer place”.

He then faced a lot of backlash for his comments and ultimately Michael Vaughan apologised for his comments. He also had made a racist comment to Azeem Rafiq and three other Yorkshire players before the start of a T20 game in 2009 but he got a clean chit from the ECB.

Now Moeen Ali has hit out at Michael Vaughan for his comments. He said that they need people like him to step up and he acted Dumb. Speaking in the documentary Is Cricket Racist? , he said:
“It was very silly. Dumb really. We need people like him to step up for us. As Muslims, or any other faith really. And just be a bit smarter. I think he has also realised that times are changing and he has to change.”

Moeen Ali further went on to highlight how British Asian players have risen in the ranks and also expressed his disappointment over Rafiq’s saga. He explained:
“There’s [British Asian] players out there who are doing better than anyone else. People won’t sign them for some reason. The South Asian player has to be almost outstanding most of the time, especially as a triallist whereas sometimes a white player doesn’t have to be outstanding, and he is getting signed.”
“Obviously sad [for Rafiq’s experiences], but it also felt like the game needed a shake-up. The greatest thing that has come out of it for me is that people have a voice now, whereas before people have been very afraid to say anything.”
Moeen Ali is currently part of England’s team for the Ashes 2023. The hosts are currently 2-1 down in the series and would be hoping to level the series when the next Test takes place from 19th July in Manchester.
