AUS vs ENG: Glenn Maxwell Breaks His Leg In A Freak Accident

After breaking his leg in a freak accident at a friend’s 50th birthday party in Melbourne on Saturday night, Glenn Maxwell will be sidelined from cricket for up to three months.
Glenn Maxwell attended the evening party after the daytime Melbourne Stars event. He and the person who was having a birthday were running around the tennis court when they both tripped and fell, trapping Maxwell’s leg under the other person.
Maxwell consequently fractured his left fibula, which required surgery on Sunday afternoon. Maxwell’s leg has been successfully reset through surgery, but he will be out of commission for eight to twelve weeks.
George Bailey Gives Update On Glenn Maxwell
Both parties were sober at the time of the incident, which happened early in the gathering.
“Glenn is in good spirits. It was an unfortunate accident and we feel for Glenn in the circumstances given he was in great touch in his last few games,” national selection chair George Bailey said.
“Glenn is a critical part of our white-ball structure and we will continue to support him through his recovery and rehabilitation.”
Glenn Maxwell’s accident comes after a string of other strange injuries to well-known athletes. Jonny Bairstow, a batsman for England, was unable to compete in the Twenty20 World Cup after breaking his leg playing golf in the UK.
The Cup was also missed by Josh Inglis, Australia’s backup wicketkeeper, whose hand suffered significant damage when a golf club broke just before the match.
Sean Abbot To Replace Glenn Maxwell
Maxwell has been replaced in the ODI team by Sean Abbott. Meanwhile, After Finch announced his retirement, Travis Head was re-inducted into the Australian team to fill the void. Marcus Harris was also chosen as the team’s backup batter.
Australia’s three quicks, Cummings, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, are all expected to be in the team, while Scott Boland will serve as the additional seamer. As the top-ranked ODI batsmen in Australia according to the ICC, Steve Smith and David Warner are also expected to play.
