Mitchell Marsh became a part of Australia’s playing XI in England vs Australia 3rd Test as a replacement for all-rounder Cameron Green. The latter faced a strain ahead of the Headingley Test and could not appear in the match. Now, former Aussie seamer Jason Gillespie has opined who will be part of the playing XI in the 4th Test.

Mitchell Marsh has also justified his position in the playing XI. In the 1st innings of the match, the right-handed batter slammed a marvelous century of 118 runs. Marsh also set up a 155-run stand with Travis Head for the 5th wicket, taking Australia’s total to 263-10 in 1st innings.

Cameron Green Should Replace Mitchell Marsh In 4th Test, Feels Jason Gillespie

In his column for the Daily Mail, Jason Gillespie wrote that if Cameron Green gets fit in the next Test, he will replace Mitchell Marsh in the playing XI. He also noted Cameron Green is the incumbent for Australia in Ashes 2023.

“Mitchell Marsh scoring that brilliant century in the first innings at Headingley will have given the selectors a lot of food for thought. But Cameron Green is the incumbent. If he is fit and they only go with one of them, I think the likelihood is that Green will slot straight back in”, Jason Gillespie wrote.

Gillespie, who played 71 Tests and 97 ODIs for Australia, also praised Mitchell Marsh for his century at Headingley. He also said that Marsh played some of the best shots of the series during that knock.

“He knows he is Green’s understudy and that his chances of playing Test cricket depend on Green’s availability. So, he has absolutely nothing to lose when he goes out to bat”.

“He can just see ball and hit ball, and I have always said Mitch is at his best when he plays with that sort of clarity. When he hits them, they stay hit. In that hundred, he played some of the best shots of this series,” Jason Gillespie further wrote in his column.
