Michael Vaughan has insisted he is worried about England’s playing XI for the upcoming third Ashes Test against Australia. England and Australia will lock horns in the third match of the five-match series from Thursday (July 6) at Headingley.
England have their back against the wall after losing the first two Tests. They lost the first Test at Edgbaston by 2 wickets before suffering a 43-run defeat at Lord’s in the second Test. The Ben Stokes-led side needs to win the third Test at any cost to keep alive England’s slim hopes of winning the Ashes. England have not won the series since 2015.
And a desperate England have made as many as three changes to their playing XI for the third Test. The hosts have dropped veteran pacer James Anderson as well as Josh Tongue for the upcoming game. They have been replaced by allrounder Chris Woakes and fast-bowler Mark Wood.

England were also forced to seek a replacement for Ollie Pope who has been ruled out of the series due to a shoulder injury. The England Test vice-captain has been replaced by spin-bowling allrounder Moeen Ali in the playing XI. In another notable move, England have also promoted Harry Brook to number three in Pope’s absence.

Michael Vaughan concerned for England:
The changes in the playing eleven have not really impressed Michael Vaughan as the former England batsman has expressed his reservation over the same. Writing in his column for The Telegraph, Vaughan admitted that he is worried for the hosts.
“I won’t lie, they have picked a team that worries me. Harry Brook has never batted No 3 for England, and has never had success there for Yorkshire. In the bowling, there are three new players who have not been in the heat of Ashes battle,” wrote Vaughan.
“I have heard comments from the England camp about how they have nothing to lose. That is not true. They have everything to lose. One mistake, one bad session, and the series will be gone. England are a talented team, capable of turning this round, but the time for talk is over,” he added.
Meanwhile, Australia are on the verge of winning the first Ashes series in England since 2001. The visitors have a 2-0 lead and just need to avoid two losses or one win in the last three games to secure a famous series win.
