Australia opener David Warner played his last Test match in his home ground of Sydney against Pakistan. Australia demolished Pakistan once again in this series to whitewash them.

Before his farewell Test, David Warner lost his prized possession which was his baggy green cap which he received on his Test debut. However, Warner somehow got back his cap during the match and he is still in the dark about the mystery surrounding how his Baggy Green cap was stolen from him and how he got it handed back to him during the SCG Test.

David Warner revealed his prized possessions went missing during transit from Melbourne to Sydney in the lead-up to his farewell Test. Stressing that the public plea he made on social media was his last resort, Warner said that he managed to check the CCTV footage of his team hotel and the airline QANTAS without much luck. However, mid-way through the match, Warner got the backpack containing his Baggy Green back.

Cricket Australia later revealed that the bag was found outside at the team hotel. The opener commented on the matter during the post-match press conference. Warner, as quoted by Sydney Morning Herald, jokingly said that he wished he could play a prank as serious as that. The southpaw revealed he was still in the dark about the mystery surrounding his prized baggy green as he was just handed the backpack in the end.

“You’re going to have to ask security. I wish I’d played a prank like that,” Warner said. “You’ll have to ask Frank [Dimasi] or Stu Bailey [security staff]. I literally got it handed to me and there was nothing [said to me]. That’s legitimate.”

David Warner Drew Curtains On A Stellar Test Career

David Warner dropped the curtains on his Test career in fine fashion by playing a gritty knock, scoring 57 off 75 deliveries in his final innings to guide Australia home. He ended his Test career being the fifth-highest run-getter in the red-ball format. Warner has amassed 8786 runs in 205 innings across 112 Test matches played for Australia. He has smashed 26 tons which included three double centuries and a triple century in his Test career.

In his last innings, he couldn’t carry the bat all the way but his contributions helped Australia seal the series against Pakistan with a 3-0 victory. Pakistan has not won a single Test on Australian soil since 1995 when Wasim Akram was the captain of Pakistan. David Warner ended with a terrific record against Pakistan. He has scored 1495 runs against Pakistan in Test cricket at an average of 74.75. His highest individual score of 335* was also against Pakistan which came back in 2019 at the Adelaide Oval.

David Warner will now focus on T20 cricket as he hopes to represent Australia in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. After the World Cup, he will most probably retire from international cricket and will spend his final years playing cash-rich t20 leagues to make the most of his last days in competitive cricket. He will forever be remembered as one of Australia’s greatest openers.
