Batting great Sachin Tendulkar posted a heartfelt message for the Australian opener David Warner after his Test retirement. The former Indian skipper highlighted the left-hander’s journey and congratulated him on a successful career in the longest format of the game. 

The conclusion of the third Test between Australia and Pakistan marked the end of an era as it was for the last time when David Warner was seen batting for his side in the whites. The opening batter ended his career on high as Pat Cummins-led side won the match and completed a 3-0 whitewash. 

David Warner got a fairytale ending as he slammed a magnificent half-century and helped his side chase the target. The batter arguably ended as one of the best Test openers for Australia and the void left by him will be difficult for the team to fill. 

When David Warner came into the scenes, he was seen as an explosive white-ball batter. Many didn’t back to be successful in Tests but he proved them wrong and cracked the format better than many greats of the game and ended up as great of Australian cricket. 

David Warner got wishes from all around the globe for his successful Test career but the best came from the master of the game Sachin Tendulkar. The batting great hailed the Australian batter’s resilience and grit. He added that Southpaw’s transition and evolution were sensational. Taking to his X account, he explained: 

“From being an explosive T20 batter to becoming a resilient Test player, David Warner’s journey exemplifies adaptability and grit. His transition and evolution in the game has been remarkable, showcasing aggressive intent while mastering the art of pacing an inning. Congratulations on a wonderful Test career, David! Best wishes to you and your family.” 

David Warner ended his career on high as he was in sensational form in the Test series against Pakistan. The batter opened his account with a daddy hundred in Perth and then played a few impactful knocks before slamming a half-century in his last innings. He scored 299 runs at an average of around 50 and was the second-leading run-getter in the series.

David Warner also opened up about his Test career and said he would people to remember him as an exciting and entertaining player. He hoped young kids follow his journey from being a white-ball player to Test cricket and urged youngsters to keep working hard. Speaking to reporters, he explained (as quoted by ESPNCricinfo): 

“Would like to be remembered as exciting, entertaining, and I hope I put a smile on everyone’s face with the way that I played and hopefully the young kids out there can follow in my footsteps. White-ball cricket to Test cricket. It’s the pinnacle of our sport. So keep working hard to play the red-ball game because it’s entertaining as well.” 

David Warner played 112 Tests in his career and scored 8786 runs his career. He had an average of 44.6 in his career and also slammed 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries with the highest score of 335. He announced his retirement from ODI cricket as well, where he scored 6932 runs at 45.01 to go with 22 hundred and 33 fifties.
