All-rounder Mitchell Marsh is set to receive a considerable pay increase in his new Cricket Australia central contract, a recognition of his impressive batting form. Mitchell Marsh has produced exceptional performances for the Australia team across formats in recent times.
Mitch Marsh made a notable comeback to Test cricket after a four-year absence. The West Australian all-rounder scored 118 runs against England in his comeback Test. Since then, he has emerged as a key contributor for Australia, solidifying his role within the squad.
In 2023, the 32-year-old scored 858 runs in 20 ODIs with an impressive average of almost 48 and a strike rate of 113.94. He notched up two centuries during the 2023 World Cup. In three T20I matches this year, he posted scores of 92 runs off 49 deliveries and 79 off 39.
Positioned in the middle of Australia’s contract list, Mitchell Marsh is on the verge of breaking into the top five, a move that could translate into a significant boost in his annual earnings, estimated between $500,000 to $800,000, as per News Corps’ Robert Craddock.
Players are ranked on the contract list based on their performance in both red-ball and white-ball formats, and Marsh holds a prominent position in both categories. Marsh’s ascent toward the top of the contract hierarchy is well-deserved for his performances.
Shaun Got Run Out For 99 And Dad Got 96 Here – Mitchell Marsh
Speaking after Day 3, Mitchell Marsh expressed disappointment at not being able to get his name on the MCG honors board. Marsh also highlighted the family connection, referencing his father and brother missing out on centuries at the iconic venue.
“(Falling for 96 was) obviously disappointing … I thought we navigated our way out of a tricky situation to get a partnership with Smudge (Smith), and I guess there’s a lot of history at this ground, the Boxing Day Test, and a bloody big honors board that I was close to getting on, but it wasn’t meant to be,” Marsh said.
“Shaun got run out for 99 and Dad got 86 here, so Shaun’s technically still got me … hopefully I get one more crack at it,” he added.
Mitchell Marsh displayed his batting prowess in the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan, aiding the team’s recovery from a challenging position at 16-4 in the second innings. During the remarkable 153-run partnership with Steve Smith, Marsh played the role of the aggressor.
However, the right-handed batter fell just short of a century, dismissed for 96 runs by left-arm seamer Mir Hamza. Agha Salman took a sensational one-handed catch at slip to end Marsh’s innings, which comprised 96 runs off 130 deliveries, including 13 boundaries.
Marsh has now become a key player across all three formats. He is a strong contender to lead Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States. The all-rounder served as Pat Cummins’ deputy during the recent 50-over campaign in India.
