Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi shared his thoughts on the team’s performance in a crushing seven-wicket defeat against India in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Shahid Afridi stated that the Pakistan team needs to show a stronger fight in the upcoming matches.

The Babar Azam-led team was outplayed by the Rohit Sharma-led team in all three departments at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14. The Men in Green failed to register their first victory against India in the 50-over World Cup.

Shahidi Afridi emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s cricket team giving their best effort and delivering a strong fight for the nation.

“As cricketers we owe our nation the best fight we can put forward, which I saw missing from our boys. Our team is great just need to put up a strong fight. Congrats to India on showcasing excellence across all departments, enjoy the win till our next match #PakvsInd #CWC23,” he wrote.

The Pakistan batter managed to put up a total of 191 runs after being asked to bat first. They seemed to be in a good position, with a score of 155/2 at one stage. However, the Indian bowlers made a solid comeback and bundled the opposition for a below-par score.

We’re Not Able To Compete – Ramiz Raja

Former Pakistan opener Ramiz Raja criticized the Babar Azam-led team for their inability to put up a fight against India. Raja acknowledged the high pressure involved in the game but stated that it’s no excuse for the team’s poor performance.

“This should hurt Pakistan because they weren’t able to compete. When you’re playing against India, obviously, it’s such an environment where it’s 99 percent India fans and crowds, you’re obviously overwhelmed,” Raja told ICC.

“I understand all of that. But Babar Azam has led this side for a good four or five years, so you’ve got to rise to the occasion. If you can’t win, then at least compete. It’s a reality and Pakistan have got to do something about it.”

The Pakistan cricket team will take on Pat Cummins-led Australia in their fourth match of the tournament at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, October 20.
