Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey, on Thursday (January 4), donned the commentator’s hat during the second day of the ongoing third Test between Australia and Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The hosts have already sealed the three-match Test series by winning the first two games. They won the first Test in Perth by 360 runs before winning the second game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground by 79 runs to clinch the series with a match to go.

In the ongoing third Test, Pakistan scored 313 runs in the first innings. The tourists were reeling at 96 for 5 at one stage before half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, and Aamer Jamal helped them recover and post a competitive total.

Rizwan and Salman shared a 94-run stand for the sixth wicket before the former departed for 88. His departure triggered another collapse for Pakistan as they found themselves reduced to 227 for 9 from 190 for 5. Even the 250-run mark was looking like a distant dream at that stage before Jamal played a brilliant knock to help his side post a 300-plus total.

The fast-bowler, who was playing only his third Test, scored 82 runs off just 97 balls with the help of 9 fours and 4 sixes. He shared an 86-run stand with Mir Hamza for the last wicket.

Alex Carey takes charge of commentary:

As David Warner and Usman Khawaja were battling it out in the middle for Australia, Alex Carey decided to don the commentator’s hat. While sitting in the dugout, he was interacting with the commentators before being told to take charge of the commentary duty for the final ball of the 17th over.

Meanwhile, Australia were on 116 for 2 at the time of writing this report. The play had to be stopped due to bad light. Marnus Labuschagne (23) and Steve Smith (6) were unbeaten for the home side. Earlier in the day, Australia lost the wickets of both of their openers.

Playing his last Test, David Warner was dismissed for 34 by Agha Salman. Before his departure, Warner was also dropped by debutant Saim Ayub in the slip cordon. Warner’s opening partner Usman Khawaja was dismissed by Jamal for 47.
