Former Indian head coach has taken to commentary after his stint with the Indian national cricket team. He is a part of the commentary team that is present in South Africa to preside over the Test series.

Day 1 of the second Test in Cape Town saw as many as 23 wickets fall with 270 runs being scored in total. The sequence of events was very unnatural in how it panned out on the very first day of a Test match. Batters from both sides struggled to score runs as bowlers made merry.

India first bowled out South Africa for 55 with Mohammed Siraj taking 6/15 in the first innings. India in response was bowled out for 153. Very interestingly, India lost their last six wickets on the same score of 153 in a never-seen-before event.

Ravi Shastri was commentary throughout when India lost their last six wickets on the score of 153. Prasidh Krishna was the last wicket to fall for a duck. As many as six Indian batters were dismissed for ducks. Virat Kohli was the top-scorer with 46. Rohit Sharma scored 39 and Shubman Gill scored 36.

As India’s innings took a dramatic turn from a somewhat stable 153 for 4 to a complete collapse at 153 all out in the Cape Town Test against South Africa, Ravi Shastri’s vivid description of the sequence of events went viral. It was a sudden batting collapse from India who at one point were looking good to score beyond 250 and size up a healthy lead.

Ravi Shastri Describes India’s Unique Batting Collapse In Cape Town

“153 for 4 and 153 all out. If someone went around the corner for a dump and has come back, India have been bowled out for 153,” said Ravi Shastri in his unique way as he described India’s dramatic batting collapse.

India lost their last six wickets in a space of 11 deliveries. The collapse was started by Lungi Ngidi who took three wickets in one over which was the 34th of the Indian innings. He first dismissed KL Rahul (8) and Ravindra Jadeja (0). In the fifth ball of the over, he then dismissed Jasprit Bumrah (0). Virta Kohli was then dismissed by Kagiso Rabada for the fifth time in Test cricket. Prasidh was the last wicket to fall for India as Rabada, Ngidi and Burger took three wickets each.

South Africa in their second innings were 62/3 at stumps on day 1. Dean Elgar (12) and Aiden Markram (36*) added 37 for the opening wicket. The stand was broken by Mukesh Kumar. He then dismissed Tony de Zorzi for 1 and then Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Tristan Stubbs on his debut for just 1.

South Africa still trail by 36 runs. They will resume on day 2 looking to get over the deficit and look to build a big lead. India will bat last on this wicket which has been criticised by experts for the way it played out on the very first day of the second Test. South Africa lead the series after winning the first Test by an innings and 32 runs.
