Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan replaced former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed in the second Tess match at MCG. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first looking to level the series.

Rizwan made a big impact with the gloves after his inclusion in the Pakistan playing XI. He took two catches in the first innings against Australia. He first caught Steve Smith which was the first catch of the day. His next catch was to dismiss Alex Carey.

Alex Carey edged the ball from Shaheen Afridi. The ball took the inside edge off Carey’s bat and Rizwan completed a diving catch to dismiss the Australian wicketkeeper. Australia were eventually bowled out for 318 with the Pakistan pacers making an impactful performance.

Shaheen Afridi, Mir Hamza, and Hasan Ali took two each while Aamer Jamal took three and Agha Salman one to bowl out Australia for 318 which was a reasonable first-innings total. The Pakistan bowlers conceded 52 runs through extras with the ball which was a record in itself at the MCG.

Pakistan did not have the best of starts with the bat. Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for 10 with the team score on 34. That was the first wicket to fall. Skipper Shan Masson (54) and Abdullah Shafique (62) then added 90 runs for the second wicket.

Just when it looked like Pakistan were coming back into the game, Pat Cummins’ three-wicket spell turned the match around for Australia. He dismissed Shafique and Babar Azam (1 off 7) in quick succession. Josh Hazlewood then dismissed Saud Shakeel (9) while Cummins accounted for Agha Salman’s wicket to leave the Pakistanis reeling.

In the last 10 overs, Pakistan has lost 10 wickets and with over 15 overs still remaining in the day’s play, Pakistan are in sight of being bowled out for a cheap score. This will allow Australia to take a huge first-innings lead and build on it in the second innings.

Pakistan are on a 15-match losing streak against Australia in Test matches on Australian soil. In this ongoing series, they are looking to change the script. They lost the first Test match by 360 runs in what was a drubbing of a defeat for Pakistan. The first Test match loss has dropped the Men in Green to second place on the points table with a PCT of 61.11.

Pakistan skipper Shan Masood despite the loss in the first Test did not sound underconfident and backed his playets to deliver in the second Test match. Meanwhile, a loss for Pakistan at MCG would mean another Test series loss for the visitors and their 16th consecutive loss in Test matches in the country.

“Look when you come to these shores, you look for progress. If you had told us that Australia would play 110 overs and we’d play 100, I’d have taken that. We could have scored quicker and 60-70 runs would have proved the difference in maybe keeping that lead to a sizeable level. Discipline is something we would take from the Australian attack. We took 15 wickets and need to aim for 20. It’s never easy when you have two debutants in a four-seam attack” Shan Masood said after the first Test loss.
