Pakistan‘s penchant for on-field blunders struck again on day four of the ongoing second Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Dropping catches at crucial junctures, making wayward throws, and comical run-outs have become a trademark for Pakistan cricket and they proved it once again on Friday (December 29) when Pat Cummins scored five runs on one ball.
The incident took place in the 75th over of Australia’s second innings. The Australia captain was facing Aamer Jamal. On the third ball of the over, the Pakistan bowler bowled a fuller delivery and Pat Cummins went for a drive through the covers.
With the fielders chasing the ball, Pat Cummins and his partner Alex Carey comfortably completed two runs before the comedy of errors unfolded. The fielder threw the ball at the bowler’s end but Shaheen Afridi, who was standing near the stumps, failed to collect the ball.
Imam-ul-Haq immediately started chasing the ball and managed to stop it from crossing the boundary. In the meantime, Pat Cummins and Alex Carey comfortably ran three more runs to collect five runs off one ball without the ball crossing the boundary.

Talking about the game, Australia have set Pakistan a target of 317 runs after being bowled out for 262 runs in their second innings. The hosts were reeling at 16 for 4 at one stage before a 153-run stand between Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh rescued them. Smith was out for 50 while Marsh missed his century by just four runs. Carey also scored a fine fifty to help his team post a 250-plus total.
For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi and Mir Hamza picked up four wickets each. Earlier in the game, Australia scored 318 runs in their first innings with Marnus Labuschagne scoring 63. In reply, Pakistan were all out for 264 despite the fifties from Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood. For Australia, their captain Pat Cummins picked up 5 wickets.
In the ongoing second innings, Pakistan were on 123 for 3 at the time of writing this report. The visitors are trailing the series after losing the first Test in Perth. Pakistan are eyeing their first Test win in Australia this century and would be hoping to end their long wait in the ongoing game.
