Due to an abdominal muscle issue, pace bowler Glenton Stuurman will not play in South Africa’s forthcoming Test series against Australia. Lizaad Williams will take Glenton Stuurman’s position on the team.

Glenton Stuurman sustained the injury over the weekend while playing for the Warriors in a domestic first-class match. Stuurman has played in two Tests for South Africa, one on the road in New Zealand in February and one at home against Bangladesh as a Covid-sub in April of this year. He will be out of commission for six weeks.

Williams has also taken three wickets in two Tests for South Africa this year, both of which were against Bangladesh. Williams picked up six wickets last week to bowl Titans to an innings victory against Knights in the domestic first-class league.

He had participated in county Northamptonshire games throughout the English summer. Although he didn’t play, he was a member of the South Africa white-ball team that competed in England in July.

All South Africa’s Test players, with the exception of Temba Bavuma, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje will play at least one red-ball domestic match before the series in Australia.

Bavuma has been given time off following a torrid T20 World Cup campaign, Rabada’s workload is being managed, and Nortje was given a No-Objection Certificate to participate in the Abu Dhabi T10 competition which runs from November 23 to December 4.

From December 9 to December 12, South Africa plays a tour game in Australia against a Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane.

On December 17, the opening Test begins at the Gabba, followed by the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day Tests in Melbourne and Sydney, respectively. South Africa needs to win the series if it wants to compete in the upcoming World Test Championship final.
