The AUS vs SL ICC World Cup 2023 match will be played in Lucknow on October 16, Monday. The match starts from 2 pm IST with both teams still looking for their first win of the campaign.

Australia are led by Pat Cummins. They lost to South Africa by 134 runs in their second game with the team struggling to find the right combination. With key players missing and the bowling and batting departments both struggling, the Aussies are finding it tough in Indian conditions.

Both teams have seven games remaining and need to win all seven to stay alive in the race for the semis. The match will be played in Lucknow where two matches have been played so far. Australia struggled against the South African spinners in their games getting down to 70/6 at one stage. The top-order has not scored consistently in the first two games.

Sri Lanka, are led by Dasun Shanaka. They lost to South Africa by 102 runs and against Pakistan by six wickets. Shanaka has been under the pump since the Asia Cup final against India but the management has backed him as the captain for the mega event.

The SL vs AUS match will give one of these teams their first win of the competition and will end their two-match losing streak. Australia has won 8 out of the 11 50-over World Cup games against Sri Lanka.

Australia

Australia’s performance in the first two matches has left cricket experts by surprise. They expected the Aussies to perform a lot better. Their batting especially has been below par. David Warner and Steve Smith two two Australian premier batters have struggled to play spin.

The trio of Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood has played together but failed to make impacts consistently. Choosing between Marcus Stoinis and Camron Green has given the management big selection headaches. The team is looking for some inspiration from their senior players.

The absence of Waninu Hasaranga and Dusmantha Chameera has been a big setback for the Lankan side. Their bowling has weakened considerably in the absence of these two senior bowlers. Maheesh Theekshana has been struggling with a hamstring injury. He also has an injury to his bowling finger and has already South Africa.

Sri Lanka’s batting has been largely carried by Kusal Mendis in the first two games. He scored 76 in the first game and 122 in the second. Sadeera Samarawickrama did score a century against Pakistan, but their top-order has to fire and back Mendis.
