Australia will take on the West Indies in the first of the three-match Test series. This article provides details about Australia's Playing 11 vs West Indies for the first match of the series.
Australia Playing 11 vs West Indies- 1st Test, Australia tour of West Indies 2025:
Openers: Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas
Australia will open the innings with a new opening pair of Usman Khawaja and Sam Konstas in the first Test against the West Indies. Both batters also opened the innings for the Kangaroos in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Konstas hasn't played a great deal of Test matches and will look to make the most of the opportunity at the start of the new World Test Championship cycle.
Sam Konstas will be partnered by Usman Khawaja, who has been able to retain his place in the squad after a disappointing performance in the last few matches.
Khawaja will look to take the responsibility upon himself to see off the new ball, as it is something that Australia failed to do in the last WTC cycle.
The duo would hope to give the team a solid start to lay a platform for the incoming batters.
Having said that, both batters would need good support from the middle orders as there is a bit of inexperience in there with a couple of batters struggling to find form.
Konstas, in particular, will look to play his natural aggressive game like he did during the series against India.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey (wk)
The opening pair will be followed by a relatively fragile batting order with the likes of Cameron Green and Josh Inglis expected to get a go in the first match in place of Labuschagne and Steve Smith.
The pair of Head and Webster will have to do the bulk of the scoring and stabilize the middle order.
Alex Carey will look after the lower-middle order, who has played some handy innings at number seven.
The Aussies would also wish for their two experienced fast bowlers, captain Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, to make a significant contribution with the bat, like they have done on several occasions in the past.
Bowlers: Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
Australia would pin their hopes on their fast-bowling trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood to pick up early wickets for the team.
The onus will also be on someone like Beau Webster, who is expected to play a vital role in the Caribbean.
One of the decisions that the team management will have to make will be regarding the number of spinners that they would like to play in the first game.
If the Pat Cummins-led side decides to go in with two spinners, then either Starc or Hazlewood will have to sit out.
Having said that, one player that will surely feature in the playing XI is Nathan Lyon. The off-spinner will look to lead from the front, being the senior spinner in the team.
